The ethos at Cransley is to educate the whole child, the range of extra curricular activities cater for all individuals and pupils are actively encouraged to join lunchtime and after school activities. Regular practices for all major sports, choir and instrumental groups are held. There also clubs for Drama, Gymnastics, Design Technology and Languages. We also have links with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
CHOIR
Singing is a popular option in the music department and a number of peripatetic staff teach a broad range of styles.
There are currently 4 choirs: ‘Mini Maestros’ which is open to class 1, 2 and 3, ‘Intermezzo’ is for juniors in years 4 – 6, ‘Oriana’
for senior girls up to year 9 and ‘Bel Canto’ for years 10 and 11. The choirs rehearse once a week and contribute to school
functions, events and outside performances such as Capesthorne Hall at Christmas. Equali at Belmont Hall is an adult ladies
choir consisting of some senior girls, ex pupils, mums ands friends, all of whom share a love of music and singing. We rehearse
every Tuesday evening in the school.
CRICKET
Cricket club is held during the summer term, every Monday lunchtime. It is open to boys and girls from class 2 to 6. The club gives pupils a chance to develop coreskills, learn about the rules of cricket and to have fun playing 'Kwik Cricket'.
CROSS COUNTRY
Competitions are held in October for Mid-Cheshire and February for the ISA Schools. Children from Class 3-6 and from Senior 1-5 are eligible to represent the school. We have many children who then go on to run in the Cheshire Championships in January or the ISA Nationals in March.
DRAMA
In the Autumn Term, the Drama Club, available to years 7, 8 and 9 meet once a week for 40 minutes. A wide range of activities is undertaken including 'warm-ups', games, the chance to act short scripted parts, improvisation and so on. The emphasis is on fun, improving skills and learning to be part of a team. We also offer the girls the opportunity to take an examiniation involving aspects of Speech and Drama, if they so wish. In the Spring Term, rehearsals begin in earnest for our annual school musical, run jointly by the Music and Drama departments. Recent productions include The Sound of Music, Bugsy malone, The King and I and West Side Story. The shows involve hard work and dedication but also a lot of fun and personal satisfaction.
FOOTBALL
Football club takes place every Monday lunchtime. It is open to boys and girls from class 2 to 6. Skill sessions are followed by small sided games. Friendly 7 a-side matches are organised against local schools.
GYMNASTICS
A Junior skills club is held on a Monday lunchtime and this is follwed by an after school club until 5pm for those in either the Junior or Senior School who wish to extend their skills further. They can experience pair and group work, vaulting, floor and ribbons.
HOCKEY
The under 13, Under 14 and Under 16 teams have played many friendly games and the Under 14s and Under 16s have played in the Mid Cheshire Tournaments.
HORSE RIDING
On a Friday afternoon you can find a small group of Cransey children at Arley Riding School. Within the hour the children ride and participate in horse management: this is grooming, filling hay bales, cleaning tack and mucking out. It has proven to be a popular extra curricular activity and often there is a waiting list.
JU JITSU
Cransley School Ju Jitsu Club has been running for nearly four years. It is part of the Mid Cheshire Budo Federation who was founded by David Flaherty MBE over 40 years ago. The lessons are delivered by Mrs Cope, who is known as Sensei Jill by all her students. Sensei Jill is a 3rd Dan Black Belt and a qualified Club Coach with a Level 2 NVQ qualification in coaching.
The club takes place on a Wednesday and a Friday after school, depending on age and ability and is open to all pupils from Class 2 upwards. The students take gradings 2 - 3 times a year where the students receive a new belt and certificate. At the moment the club has students ranging from beginner to some senior girls who will be taking their black belts next Christmas.
NETBALL
Juniors practice on tuesday lunchtimes and Class 5 and 6 have matches in High 5s and 7s. The club is open to both boys and girls and mixed games are also a possibility. The ISA North Tournaments are entered each year. Senior practices are held on a Tuesday for Senior 1, 2 and 3 and Wednesday for Senior 4 and 5. Senior 2, 3 and 4 play in the local Mid Cheshire leagues. All the teams enter the Mid Cheshire Tournaments and The Under 13s and Under 16s enter the ISA North Tournaments.
ORCHESTRA
This is open to all musicians of grade I and above. It rehearses weekly under the instruction of Evan Easton who is a member of the Halle Orchestra.
