Grease is the word...

Following the huge success of our production of ‘Hairspray’ last year, this April our girls treated us to two equally exhilarating, exciting performances of the musical ‘Grease.’ Our audiences were treated to energetic, lively dancing, memorable singing and many moments of hilarity. Thank you to all our cast and their backstage supporters for their enthusiasm and drive, also to Mrs Easton and Mrs Palmer for endless nagging and general bossiness!! The Senior School production of ‘Grease’ was very well received-we even had a real car for ‘Greased Lightning’ thanks to the ingenuity of Mr Warburton and his helpers. The cast, crew and audiences all had a terrific time.

The club will be open to all age groups from both the Upper and Lower School. The lessons will take place at the Chill Factor in Manchester and the children will be taken by our own bus and brought back to Belmont Hall after the lessons end. For more information contact, contact the school office on 01606 891 747.

A day with the Tudors

CLASS 3 VISIT TO SPEKE HALL Class 3 enjoyed a taste of Tudor life when they visited Speke Hall, the home of Edward and Margaret Norris. We had an informative tour of this impressive timber framed building built in the 16th century, spying through peep holes and learning the true meaning of those well known phrases “know your place” and “don’t let the bed bugs bite”! In the afternoon we learnt about Tudor etiquette, dress and enjoyed a pomander making workshop. “It’s been the best day ever” Saskia Strickland-Baker.

Roll Up Roll Up

In March the whole of the Pre-Prep and Junior School participated in Cransley School’s second circus workshop day run by Circusology. The day started with an assembly for all the pupils where the leader, Alex, demonstrated all the skills they would be learning and the equipment they would be using during their workshops. This was an excellent start to the day. Alex demonstrated riding a unicycle, juggling, spinning plates, balancing feathers. The children then moved onto their class workshops. All the children had opportunities to play with all the equipment (spinning plates, juggling balls, Diablo, balance feathers, pedal & go, unicycles and many more) and learn new skills but each class spent the first half of their sessions learning specific skills relative to their age group. Great fun was had by all the pupils and staff. We are hoping to run an after school session for the Senior School in the near future after their most enjoyable trip to see the Moscow Circus. Look out for the date!

Cransley TAG Team reach Quarter FINALS

On Tuesday 7th June the Junior boys and girls Under 11’s team took part in this year’s Tag Rugby Tournament at Abbey Gate Junior School. The Cransley team did exceptionally well and reached the quarter final stages which was an excellent reward for all their hard work and training throughout the year. Katie Bradburn and Jack Cooper were named “Players of the Tournament.” The event was well organised and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Special thanks to Mr & Mrs Cooper and Mr Heaps and Ms Sharman for their parental support. A very big thank you to Mrs Hayes for doing such a fantastic job as my assistant coach on the day. The tag rugby will start again in September. Mr A Aleali, Tag Rugby Coach

Gemma Drinkwater in Senior 1 starting playing squash at the age of nine and is currently UK ranked 31st in the Girls U13 age group. She plays for the Cheshire squad and has recently been picked to represent the North West in the Regional Team Championships against the other regions of the UK. Gemma also regularly takes part in competitions across the North of England and recently won the Bowden U13’s girls Tournament. She plays 4-5 times a week and hopes to start competing in ladies teams after the summer break.

Rebecca reaches County Level of success

Talented young swimmer, Rebecca Howman in Class 5 is pictured with a modest selection of some of the medals and trophies she has won to date. Rebecca swims competitively for Northwich Swimming Club where she has had an excellent start to the year. Her favoured strokes are butterfly and free style and she has achieved ‘County Level’ times in both strokes this year. More recently Rebecca has won a number of competitions and this success has culminated in her being ranked 5th in the North West and 46th in the UK for the 200m butterfly. Rebecca has also been selected to represent the North Midlands region in an inter-regional competition at the end of May where she hopes to achieve a national time. Still only aged 10, Rebecca’s discipline and dedication to training is certainly paying off and is certainly a credit to her. Rebecca Adlington keep looking over your shoulder as your namesake is hot on your heels!!

February 2010 - Trip to Rome

Over the February half-term holiday, a group of 34 Senior Girls enjoyed a three day break in Rome as part of their RE and Art studies. It was an exhausting stay as we packed as much as possible into the time available - the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Forum, the Vatican and the Castel Sant Anglo to name but a few of the sights we saw. There were many lighthearted moments too - as we given roses at the Spanish Steps, travelled back to Ancient Rome on the flight simulator at the Rome Experience (the rats running across our legs felt extremely real!) and last, but certainly not least, we threw our coins in the Trevi Fountain and sampled the speciality - Italian ice cream. The weather was disappointing - but happily nothing else was.

Royal Society of Chemistry

The Chemistry Department had a very interesting visitor this term when a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry visited us to talk to Senior 3 and 4 about opportunities in Science in Higher Education, the UCAS system with particular emphasis on Chemistry. The girls found the talk very informative and hopefully some will apply to join Royal Society themselves.
